In this post, (os) shares their reflections on Palestine, systemic bias in STEM, and AI art (again). They also ask people to hire them and share leads on funding/development opportunities for their work (again). This post is a celebration of another completed term at UCLA (again).
Read MoreIn this post, I talk about web art, digital theatre, and writing fanfics with ChatGPT. Also, if Briahna or Robby are reading this: if you want this off the internet, just shoot me an email! (Disclaimer: This blog post talks about unrelated subjects. Romantic Brie x Robby content can be found at the bottom of the page.)
Read MoreTechnically, half of the "play" is complete already. Two weeks ago, the theatrical version of [cod] ]catfish[ had its first public reading, and it's an interesting process to create a project with two very different perspectives for feedback: not just my playwriting cohort, but also my creative coding classmates as well. Sometimes it's a bit of a challenge to communicate to both sides about what the project entails. I'm hoping the payoff will be worth it when the workshop production launches in June.
Read MoreI feel this immense tension between my desire to implement the project and the need to focus on my learning at grad school. I'm trying to build my entire curriculum in my first year around exploring the unexplored world of digital media artmaking, and most of my professors have been telling the class about the importance of taking things slow and not putting pressure on yourself to have a ton of output as a student. But...I can't help it when I have an idea that's burning in my mind.
Read MoreMy interest in AI-generated art is not mere curiosity. At the start of a lot of public conversations surrounding AI art, I was actually pro-AI art and I was even frustrated by most artists’ knee-jerk aversion to the concept. Nowadays, my stance is much more neutral, and I’m in a headspace where I’m seeing an equal amount of pros and cons. Currently, I find myself hungry to understand what type of art I’m trying to create with these technologies.
Read More(os) sits down with theatre artists Iraisa Ann Reilly and Melody Wong to talk about the links between anime, theatre, and telenovelas, and they make a lot of unlikely connections! This podcast is for any third culture kids and anyone who likes some combination of anime, theatre, and telenovelas (and not necessarily all at once).
Read MoreThis play is tricky to write for several reasons. I find myself frequently writing some dialogue that feels very heavy in the exposition, and I know it’s going to hold an audience back from engaging with the work. For now, I just have to write whatever comes to mind and hope for the best. As a writer, I’m used to being very meticulous with my first draft so that it feels close to “production-ready.” I’ve had to accept that I’m going to write a bad first draft.
Read MoreThe project I was working on had some prominent themes surrounding immigration justice in the United States, and there was some concern that our performance was feeding into the creation of this…genre? Trend? Dynamic? Artists, scholars, and thinkers love to attach the word porn to heavy, weighty subjects. Nowadays, I’m confused by our collective use of this word. I’m not sure if I’m even using it correctly myself.
Read MoreFirst project blog. Will evolve over time. A constant process. No, I don’t plan to write entirely in sentence fragments. But expect a lot of them. ;)
Read MoreI’m left feeling as though every space is an imperfect space. I love going to bear events and feeling affirmed in my own sex appeal, but I despise the sexual politics of which bodies, gender presentations, skin tones are celebrated at these events. I yearn to go to an inclusive bear space where we see a variety of folks representing different cultures, backgrounds, and ideas.
Read MoreNames that I’ve experimented with have included: Chaos, Nalmp, Goldernico, and Syrene. It really resonated with me that there were other weirdo Latinx kids like myself who felt distant from a culture that was said to be theirs. Sure, you could’ve told me what my culture was like, but how was I supposed to know without experiencing it for myself?
Read MorePerhaps “unlearning” isn’t really the right word – it’s the feeling that certain things can’t be unknown. You can’t unknow what’s going on right now. Even if you deactivate your accounts, turn off your TV, and go hide in a ravine for the rest of your living days, there is still the knowledge that our world is probably going to die.
Read MoreIt felt like hating slow people in any context – on the sidewalk, in public transit, at long lines, wherever – was a uniquely American experience. Everything must be optimized. If you weren’t moving at an optimal pace, then society hates you. It even was as if society applauded you for hating slow things.
